The First Shoot
Working with topless models is weird. It feels like it contradicts the point of my project. Even the idea of taking a photo of a topless model sexualizes the body. I started my project by looking at some photos of the free the nipple campaign. I was inspired by a few photos, such as one that displayed the anatomy of both men and women, or even ones that censored the photos in interesting ways. This first photo is powerful but just didn't feel right.

The Next Step
I worked with this matching of the lines because I felt like it made the relationship between genders transform from completely different to extremely similar. Although it was compelling I didn't feel like it was good enough to just match the one arm. So I printed of more Chest strips that were different sizes and angles. This allowed me to work with different body types to find a perfect match.

After a group critique for class, it was mentioned how interesting the white censor bar looked. Compared to the black bar that is commonly used the white fills in the space and seems to highlight the missing area. Someone mentioned, "What if it was a picture there". This idea intrigued me. The next chance I had I printed off a chest strip and had a model hold it up. It looked ok until I accidentally caught the moment the arms of the two photos matched.

The results were starting to come to life. I was able to adjust how it matched each model and then was able to adjust other elements such as that head position and hair that added to the beauty and created an androgyny between the gender of the model and the gender of the chest.
What's The Point
I worked with this matching of the lines because I felt like it made the relationship between genders transform from entirely different to remarkably similar. Although it was compelling, I didn't feel like it was good enough just to match the one arm. So I printed off more Chest strips that were different sizes and angles. This allowed me to work with varying body types, yet find a perfect match.
